I think what they mean is, SOMETIMES you can be a little rude, it doesn't mean you're actually a mean person. And you shouldn't say 'don't act like you're never mean' because you actually shouldn't be mean, ever. I know that sounds ridiculous but it's true, what's the point in being mean, it makes people feel like shit and is kind of pointless.

the point is that sometimes you don’t realize you’re doing it. i’m never intentionally mean to anybody but if someone pisses me off it’s hard to just be like “oh that’s fine and dandy”

you are, i guarantee, sometimes unintentionally rude or mean to people. everybody is.
